The value study:
Critical to any painting about light is a good value
study. This is true for a standard approach as well as for the conceptual approach of this double sided project.
Here it is the afternoon light baking the eastern side of the
Predijkherrenrij.
Predijkherrenrij Grande, Bruges, Belgium 2009. Pencil study on paper highlighted with white chalk,
39 cm x 29 cm.
The back side will be
abstract but the front requires a traditional approach.
Thus, the study is invaluable for setting up the basic values of the
lansdcape.
For setting the mood and feeling of the piece. This
drawing is done on charcoal paper,
highlighted with white chalk and pencil. The next stage
will be transposing this design to a panel. Here's what it looks like
so far...
