A Work in Progress...
The value study:

Critical to any painting about light is a good value
study. This is invaluable for setting up the basic values
of the final piece. This study here is done on relatively
thick, smooth drawing paper. Luckily this kind of paper
allows for fine lines which can capture detail both in the
highlights and the shadows. The rest of the information
needed can be augmented from photographs and direct observation
(since I live just on this street).
