About 30 years ago I experimented with making mixed media puzzle paintings: small individual paintings that stood alone, on their own right, but also created a composite image when assembled together. I loved both the idea and the experience that a painting is something changeable. It need not be cast in stone nor hung lifelessly on a wall. It can invite an active participation with the viewer that need not restrict itself to the physical eyes only.

Thus, this painting, the first of a planned series, incorporates a rotating panel in the center of the painting, allowing the viewer to rotate between realistic and abstract points of view.
