This view is from the bridge we usually cross over to enter the Sint Anna quartier section of Bruges where we live.
The light is late afternoon/early evening, long summer light.
The wind on the canal quiets down then, so the water reflections are longer and not so choppy.
This piece was created from onsite watercolor and value studies.
I used an indirect painting technique in order to achieve
the intense luminosity that I experienced in the
foreground greens.
That luminosity doesn't translate
well through the
various levels of digital reproduction, so the image here is
a fledgling intimation of this
effect.
(My thought, my wish, is to
create paintings that vibrate.)
