The intent...
of my work both in the
creation-experience as well as its expression is non-duality: the disappearance of the distancing aspect inherent in a subject and object relationship. Thus, non-duality as an experience drives my
creative process (as it does any creative endeavor), and as a concept fuels my subject matter.
In practical terms this means that the
experience of creating involves a merging with the materials I use, letting the blue pigment or melted wax speak through my caressing hands. Since I am deeply inspired by the effects of light on landscape, it also means merging with my subject matter, the earth, the water, the light, and allowing these essential realities to speak through me.
Due to the infrequently cooperative weather in Belgium and my own physical limitations I cannot work outside (en plein
air) nearly so often as I would like. Thus, my studio
productions involve further explorations both in materials and their application: attempts to illustrate my own
understanding and experience of non-duality. Viewed in this way, my paintings can be seen both as symbols and invitations, allowing the viewer to enter in, explore and dissolve their own existential boundaries.
